Heavenly Beef with Sticky Rice

Kohk & Sahk jerky products can be savored alone or as many Laos enjoy the vibrant food, with sticky rice.

The staple food of the Laos is steamed sticky rice which is eaten by hand. In fact, the Laos eat more sticky rice than any other people in the world. Sticky rice is considered the essence of what it means to be Lao. Often the Laos will refer to themselves as “luk khao niaow”, which can be translated as “descendants of sticky rice”.


Traditional Lao Sticky Rice Recipe

Prep Time: 12 hrs          Cook Time: 15 min.

  • 2 lbs of soaked sticky rice
  • 3 cups water
  • Lao bamboo steamer basket
  • Lao steamer pot

* The rice basket and steamer pot could be found on Amazon or Lao supermarkets

  1. Submerge and soak sticky rice in room temperature water overnight.
  2. Pour 3 cups of water into the steamer pot (or just enough so that it doesn’t touch the rice).
  3. Drain the soaked rice into the steamer basket and place over the pot.
  4. Cover the top of the bamboo steamer basket with a lid and cook for 10-15 minutes until the sticky rice is soft and fluffy.
  5. Serve with some Kohk & Sahk jerky and enjoy.
